John D. MacArthur Beach State Park Cleanup - North Palm Beach
National Public Lands Day (NPLD) is the nation’s largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands which Americans enjoy.
On the morning of September 29th, the eve of NPLD, twelve fun-loving and very dedicated scrappy volunteers took time out of their busy day to go to the beach! Yes, it was a tough job but somebody had to do it :-).
As part of the Give Time Together Campaign and Travelocity’s Travel for Good program, our group was dedicated to helping clean up the beach at John D. MacArthur Beach State Park in North Palm Beach.
It was a beautiful, sunny day (no hurricanes in sight). We, of course, came prepared in our shorts, sneakers/sandals, sunscreen slathered on, and wearing hats and sunglasses along with our spiffy new t-shirts!
The Park provided us with gloves, trash picker-uppers (actually trash picker-upper tools since we were the trash picker-uppers :-)), and trash bags.
After two hours of “beach combing” we had several bags of stuff (cups, cans, cigarette butts plus a few other items we weren’t sure of) that did not belong on a beach… We even had some pvc pipe tangled up in seaweed.
This is a great cause and we had a great time.
