(Santa Cruz, Bolivia) “Mi Refugio” is a place to help women with cancer. This institution began work in 2003 and has focused in Breast Cancer Prevention.

Ana Maria Coutand (Air France Representative in Bolivia) is the Institution’s President. Their principal labor is to collect money to help the poor people receive a free breast exam and treatment. This institution has made a big difference in all women with cancer in Santa Cruz, Bolivia.

Mi Refugio is a place where these women can receive emotional and spiritual support and occupationa ltherapy.

The “little house” as it’s called by all these women in the program, has helped the women learn to keep up with the sickness, fight to get well and feel as though they are not alone. They share the problems with other women with the same sickness.

We are helping selling tickets for a dinner to collect money and we are planning to continue to help with this cause.

It is very important to stop the cancer on time. Statistics show that one in every ten woman have this sickness.  

“Mi Refugio” offers free yoga, psychological support, healthy food, paint classes, embroidery, and all kinds of crafts, etc.

It’s a very important factor that the psychology part works to overcome their sickness. That’s why this Institution needs a lot of cooperation in helping all these women.  

Rosa Maria de Calderon is a psychologist that got this sickness. After her experience she became part of this program and received her colleagues’ emotional support every day in Mi Refugio.

As part of the Give Time Together Program we donated a book to Mrs. Calderon called “Trust in the tomorrow”  by Dr Vladimir Lange. It is a guide that informs about the treatments, therapies, what to do after the cancer, etc. Also we will distribute brochures on “How-to” do self examinations and check for any signs to prevent and detect the sickness early.
