For 3 days, 16 people of our TN, AS and GT teams worked in groups of 6-7 people at a day nursery, helping to set up a nice playground area for the children in the garden.

On the 1st morning, we arrived to find a muddy sodden ground in the garden, 3 earth heaps and piles of planks to joint in order to build small wooden houses to store the children’s toys later.

Packing host kits for Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea
Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is one of The Cancer Council’s foremost fundraising events and the largest, most successful event of its kind in Australia. Over $40 million has been raised since it first began in 1994.
Volunteers are essential to the success of Starlight Day, particularly this year with the fundraising goal a record-breaking $2 million.
Each year there are over 600,000 child hospital admissions across Australia, at the moment Starlight can only reach one in three of these children. Starlight’s aim is to give every seriously ill and hospitalised child the opportunity to access and benefit from its programs by 2010.
Travelocity on Location, in Las Vegas, had an amazing turn out with its own “First Paw Forward” event. This was a first event of its kind where Travelocity on Location sponsored the entire event. Our goal was to work with local animal shelters and use our event as an adoption event to help some of the Las Vegas Valley homeless animals find a new home and give them a second chance at life. With the kind of turn out we wanted for “First Paw Forward”, we needed to fulfill a couple requirements: High-traffic location, make sure the public was entertained, and make sure our event was publicly known.
Finding a location was our first big challenge; we started contacting the city parks and several private parks with not much luck due to licensing and enormous rental fees. After days of hard searching, a terrific location had been found, “Town Square Las Vegas”, a brand new outdoor mall which had a park and an entertainment area in the center of the mall. This was an absolutely wonderful location to host our event because it was in a very popular area and had really high amount of traffic.
I was assigned to the Purple team and Marie was our captain. We were tasked with staining picnic tables, and the playground equipment. Marie was an integral part of our team and made sure our team had the right supplies to accomplish our task. She worked along side of us and at one point tolded me how excited the children will be to have the playground equipment renewed. You could tell she was envisioning the children playing on the clean, refurbished equipment. At one point it started to rain and most of the team ran inside, except for a few of us and Marie. She was dedicated to make sure our project was a success.
We had the opportunity to work with several single mom’s. On the Green team, our mom’s were Comfort and Lori.
Upon entering our rooms, we were greeted by very dark and drab walls that initially made your heart break thinking of Comfort and Lori living in the dreary rooms with their small children. With brushes in hand, a scramble for plastic to cover the floors, primer to help with the walls, etc. we began working to brighten the temporary homes of two beautiful mom’s who have struggled in life and have made very hard, yet positive changes for themselves and the lives of their children.

“People travel to wonder at the height of the mountains, at the huge waves of the seas, at the long course of the rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motion of the stars, and yet they pass by themselves without wondering.”

The Sabre Team drove 100 miles South of Santiago to give our new friends a small intangible gift. To our big surprise, we were impressed by all the love and affection we started to receive the moment we arrived there. Our “grannies” gave us the most gorgeous and exquisite gift anyone can ever get…..The Power of Sharing
