Sabre Hotel Groups - Tarrant Area Fod Bank

Hairnets, surgical gloves and tortillas – what do these have in common? They brought all 3 Sabre Holdings hotel groups (TN Car & Hotel, Travelocity Hotels and SynXis) together for the 1st time in a community Give Together event.  41 members from these groups volunteered at the Tarrant Area Food Bank, which supports more than 48,000 needy families each month.  The food bank is a nonprofit food center that receives and distributes millions of pounds a food each year.  The Food Bank procures donated surplus food and transfers it in usable quantities through nine programs/Member Agencies in 13 North Texas counties. While meeting and working together, all the volunteers learned how to peel apart and package 20 (count them!) tortillas a bag.  While the work was fun, different and glamorous – the group packaged over 100 boxes (38 pounds each). The event concluded with lunch together in a Mexican restaurant where the main fare was – you guessed it – TORTILLAS! – Lynn Hendler

Time Givetogether - Costa Rica Team

Sabre Travel Network - Costa Rica
This year we met a side of society that everybody sees but tends to forget; out of fear or due to social class.  We visited this neighborhood known as a “precario”, due that people there have mainly a low level of studies, very low income.  They can’t adquire a home or get a loan to do so.  We decided to focus our eyes on this place that we ALL forget and abandon without caring for who they are or where they’re from; and brought them a morning of joy, providing food, toys, and basic househeld items.  The most important moment was when our souls became calm and held silence in a moment when a child delivered a smile in appreciation and thankfulness.  This aid was for those who could always use a hug or a warm greeting to let them know we’re here to help; without minding country of origin or race or any other political fence, proving that the people of Sabre Travel Network will be here for them.

We all know that “giving back” to the community, even a little bit of help, means so much to others.

This year’s GiveTogether Campaign continues Sabre’s tradition of giving back to the community and provides a wonderful opportunity to join colleagues and friends across the company by participating in one of the service projects in Krakow. 2007 Sabre Poland GiveTogether Campaign Chairs Karolina Stepien, Jakub Dziwisz, Adrian Tworuszka and Tomek Krzyzak with PR and communication support from Kathleen Nolan organized a few ways that employees could participate throughout the month of September and October: Read more »

Stockholm Helps the Homeless

We have renovated 5 bedrooms at Stadsmissionen, Bostället, which serve as overnight shelter for men who are homeless. Our work has been much appreciated by the staff at the shelter- they have called and emailed explaining their gratitude.  We painted the walls in these 5 bedrooms and had a schedule with 3 shifts for two days. Staff from Sabre Travel Network, Lastminute and Travelocity participated.

Sabre Travel Network: 9 out of 11 participated- 82% participation

27 participated from Travelocity and Lastminute - according to Jeanette Blomqvist from Travelocity, they had 30% rate participation.

The total amount of participants was 36 people.

The Sabre staff was happy, that they were offered the opportunity to help out constructively. It was hard work but worth it, meant a lot for all of us to really see the joy and appreciation from the staff and residents at the homeless shelter- they all came down several times to have a look and thank us in person.

Furthermore it was real fun to get to know the staff from the other offices, to work together as a team to do good. We all would like to thank Sabre for this great and much appreciated event and we all look forward to next year.

Girl Scout Camp - Timberlake Activity

On Wednesday Sept. 12th approximately 60 volunteers from various business units within Airline Solutions gathered at Camp Timberlake in Azle to spruce up the camp facilities.  Volunteers donned their red Sabre volunteer shirts and loaded on a bus outside of building A and when we arrived at the camp we were immediately split into teams.  We had painters, people who wanted to take a walk around the lake, people experienced with power tools, roofers and the brush people.  The painters got to work painting either the front steps of each cabin/tent or working on the main dining hall or bathroom building.  The lake people ended up filling many trash bags while they “strolled” along the lake side.  The people working on the brush cleared out old branches, bushes, weeds, you name it, and they had a huge pile at the end of the day.

The Tell-Tale Cookie Crumb!

For the 4th year in a row, the smell of home baked cookies helped to spread cheer through the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The usual Sabre Winston-Salem culprits could be found causing a stir through the quiet rooms as the tantalizing aroma of melting chocolate and butter mixed with sugar and flour drifted lazily down the hallways.
