Building a sensory path in a Kindergarten in Leverkusen

p5070448Weather couldn´t have been better for our outside event in the Kindertagesstätte Leverkusen, building a sensory path for the little ones. With ten members of the Travel Management Systems (tms) team, we were all excited about spending an afternoon with 65 children aged 2 to 6. They already were expecting us equipped with spades and picks. After having discussions about the location and the design of the sensory path, we rolled up our sleeves and got to work. Read more »

Hamburg, Germany May 06/2009, on a rainy day eight Sabre employees arrived at the Kindergarten Heimfeld for their Give Time Event. First, we were welcomed by the kids and their nursery teachers. Hand in hand we stood in a large circle and sang songs with the children. Some of the songs demanded extensive gesticulation, I think we looked quite funny while doing so. After this the Kindergarten management introduced us to the children. Then we formed two groups. Read more »

A day with the Animal Shelter / Hamburg PART II - Germany

“The question is not “Can they reason?”, nor “Can they talk? but rather “Can they suffer?” ~Jeremy Bentham

This was once again the slogan for our Give Time Together campaign at the Animal Shelter Westerwohld, 30 km north of Hamburg, where we helped some of the poorest member of society: unloved and abandoned animals. We had searched for a new slogan to use as header for our blog that would describe our choice for where to donate our time, but none describes it better then the above quote by Jeremy Bentham.

The NABU needed our help for replanting a rain storage reservoir located in the Hamburg surroundings. We were all warned beforehand that this Give Time Together event would require real enthusiasm and physical engagement and is only something for hard-boiled fellows. And indeed it was a challenge…

Spending a day with dementia-ill residents in an old people’s home - Germany

pict4053.JPGOn April 22, we celebrated our give-time-together day. 10 employees of tms Travel Management Systems in Germany, almost 50 % of the staff, attended our project at an home for dementia-ill people. We had a great day and very much enjoyed, spending time with the residents. We took them for a walk and played games, we supported them during their meals and baked cakes with them. For all of us, it was a great experience and, althoug the residents are dementia-ill, it was satisfying to notice how greatful they were to be visited by us, since many of the elderly don’t have any relatives any more. With an exceptional engagement, the manager of the organization supported our project and informed us detailed about the conception of the people’s home. I am sure that all of my colleagues don’t regret a minute of the time they spend for the “give-time-together” volunteer week

Spending a day with dementia-ill residents in an old people’s home - Germany

This year the employees of Travel Management Systems decided, instead of spending time with youg people, like the years before, to give time to elderly people. Since in our community we have a nursing home run by the “Caritas,” which is a well known charity organisation in Germany, we are going to spend time with dementia-ill people. Our activities will be for example, taking the elderly residents for a walk, cook and bake with them or read something to them. This week we had an appointment with the managing director of the peoples home, to get a little familiar with the surroundings and than our event will take place on April 22. I am very happy this year, that 9 colleagues out of 26 will attend the event. I am sure, that all of them will take home some interesting and valuable experience. So we are all looking forward to Tuesday.

Child Poverty in Germany - DIY-Initiative

The Arche (Ark) is a christian charity organization in Germany (Berlin, Hamburg and Munich), who are dedicated to support children from poor families. They “care” and offer warm lunch, leisure activities, homework and school support to get those children off the streets.

As I do frequently, I will collect toys and well kept clothes from my daughter and friends with children and drop them of at the Arche in Berlin.
